Cancer

The National Cancer Institute's SEER program (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) estimates that in 2007 alone, almost 1.5 million men and women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer.  Cancer is a disease which is characterized by the rapid growth and spread of irregular or abnormal cells.  These cells invade and outgrow normal, healthy cells and tissue, using the body's own blood and lymph systems to spread throughout the body.  The main types of cancer are:
  • Carcinoma, in which the cancer starts in the skin or the tissues lining the internal organs;
  • Central nervous system, which describes cancers that originate in the brain and spinal cord;
  • Leukemia, in which the cancer begins in the blood-forming tissue, or bone marrow, and spreads through the body's blood;
  • Lymphoma and multiple myeloma, in which cancers first develop in the immune system; and
  • Sarcoma, which are cancers that affect the body's connective or supportive tissues, like bone, muscle, fat, cartilage or blood vessels.
While there is no "cure" for the over 100 known types of cancer, there are many different treatments available, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.  Increasing numbers of cancer patients are seeking treatments now included in the category of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).  CAM therapies are commonly used to:
  • empower patients by providing them with options and information they can use to take a personal interest and play in important role in their own care and recovery;
  • help patients cope with the nausea, pain and fatigue associated with conventional cancer treatments;
  • give patients a means by which they can manage the stress and emotional trauma often caused by a cancer diagnosis and resulting treatments;
  • assist patients in discovering their optimal levels of health, so that their bodies are best equipped to heal.
At Immune Recovery and Wellness, P.C., we employ a number of Health Care Specialists including dieticians, acupuncturists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, psychotherapists, Reiki masters, massage therapists, Transformational Breath therapists, and pastoral counselors.  All highly trained professionals in their respective fields, this team of health experts will make every effort to collaborate with each patient's current health provider(s) to ensure the safety and effectiveness of any new treatments.

Cancer patients who attend our clinic often stay for some period of time to complete their prescribed therapies.  Cancer patients' length of stay is determined by the results of weekly lab work and immunology response.  They typically spend five or six hours a day at the clinic, Monday through Friday, with a reduced day on Saturday.  Please see our Consultation, During Your Stay and Aftercare pages for more information on the admittance process and costs of treatment.
